WATERLOO (AP)--17-year old convicted of beating an elderly man with a frying pan during a robbery attempt has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Jesse John Pearson, who was tried as an adult, was found guilty last month of first-degree robbery, willful injury causing serious injury and going armed with intent.
Prosecutors say Pearson and another youth gained entry to the home of 69-year-old Peter Weiss of Waterloo on July 14. As the second teen made a telephone call, Pearson searched for something to steal and beat Weiss, who is developmentally disabled, with a cast iron pan.
Pearson must serve at least 70 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
