Shoppers hungry for great deals this Black Friday

WATERLOO (KWWL)-- It's the official start to the holiday shopping season.  "Black Friday" when retailers offer sweet deals to consumers to try and get their books out of "the red" and back in to the black.

Shoppers hoping to get the best deals spent hours camped outside stores.

The Toys ''R'' Us in Waterloo opened shortly after midnight.
More than two dozen people were lining up outside the store before 10 p.m. Thursday.

A longer line formed outside the Best Buy on San Marnan Drive. They were let into the store at 5 a.m.

Early numbers at one of Iowa's largest shopping centers showed some positive news about spending.  At Jordan Creek Mall in Des Moines, nearly 50,000 people were in the doors in the two-hour span from midnight to 2:00 a.m.

In Dubuque, there are changes at Kennedy Mall to prevent a traffic jam, like one that happened in 2008.  The mall's marketing director says they've improved their parking lot and also have traffic patrol on hand.
