Site owners protest potential Hancher move

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The owners of an apartment building that is being considered as a potential site for the new Hancher Auditorium have told the University of Iowa they're not interested.  Joseph Holland, an attorney for the downtown Pentacrest Garden Apartments, has told the city council that converting the land into university property means the city is losing out on potential tax revenue.  The building on the banks of the Iowa River was heavily damaged in 2008 summer flooding. Officials say they also want to rebuild the Art Building East complex, which also was damaged in the flooding.  Officials say the threat of future flooding at the current site makes relocation a better option.  FEMA will pay for 90 percent of the project.
