Cedar Ridge Winery offers fine wines, fantastic views

SWISHER (KWWL) - A local business owner is ready to enjoy the fruits of his labor. The new Cedar Ridge Winery and Distillery holds its grand opening Friday morning.

Owner Jeff Quint says last year's flood and a down economy have been challenges, but he's ready for his business to expand.

"We've intended to have our facilities out here among our vineyards since we started planning back in 2003," said Quint.

Moving the Cedar Ridge Winery from downtown Cedar Rapids to its new location near Swisher, has been Quint's dream. He wanted to start building last year, but that plan was ruined by the devastating June flood.

"We ended up throwing out 8,000 bottles of wine."

The new winery features a tasting room and a larger storage facility for wine barrels.

But it's not just about the wine. The storage warehouse is home to a one-of-a-kind custom-made still, which will allow Quint to quadruple production of spirits under his Clearheart label.

It will churn out quint's new dark rum, single malt whisky, and Iowa's first bourbon.

"With the new equipment, we hope to be able to at least satisfy the demands in Iowa, but also expand into other states."

Quint hopes all of this will provide sustainability for his business. And when the snow melts, he'll be ready to open his doors for parties and events, with a patio area and available tent.

"We believe we're very accessible for both Cedar Rapids and Iowa City."

If you'd like to attend the Cedar Ridge Winery's grand opening weekend, it's located at 1441 Marak Road in Swisher.

Hours Friday and Saturday are 11 AM to 7 PM, and Sunday 11 AM to 5 PM.
