Black Hawks honor Waterloo emergency crews with jerseys

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The Waterloo Black Hawks hockey team found a unique way to recognize Waterloo's emergency personnel.  New jerseys were unveiled Thursday at city hall.

They're mostly black with red and white trim, but feature logos from the police and fire departments.

The Black Hawks received special permission from the United States Hockey League to wear them Saturday Night against the Des Moines Buccaneers.

For the first time ever, half of the team will be allowed to wear the police jerseys, the other half wearing the fire jerseys.

"Whether we have jerseys or not it means a great deal to us that the Black Hawks call their home in Waterloo and they entertain and thrill so many of our Cedar Valley citizens so this should be just an extra special fun night," Waterloo Mayor Tim Hurley said.

The jerseys will be auctioned off following Saturday night's game.  Proceeds will go to honor guards with each department.
