Homeless Hygiene

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Regular check-ups and hair cuts are some things we take for granted, but not for people who don't have homes.

Iowa City organizations held the first Homeless Resource Fair on Wednesday.

The Hair Port gave free haircuts. Free dental screenings and blood pressure tests were also available.

Representatives from the Shelter House, Mecca and Hacap let people know the resources available.

"We're gathering information, trying to see what's most helpful, and what we'd like to make available next year when we do this. And we're just overwhelmed by the generosity of the different providers and businesses," said Crissy Canganelli, Shelter House director.

More than a dozen providers were at the fair, providing their services.
