Crews search for missing Blairstown man

BLAIRSTOWN (KWWL) - A family continued to search Tuesday for a missing Benton County man.

22-year old John Skalsky, Jr.,  was last seen Saturday evening. Authorities say he was walking from Blairstown to Norway near the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, but never made it to Norway.

Dozens of volunteers spent the better part of Tuesday morning combing the countryside between the towns. Skalsky's family and friends gathered at the Blairstown Fire Department, got their instructions on where to search, and headed out.

The last they heard from him was at around 7:30 Saturday evening.

"The last time I saw him was Saturday before we got groceries," said Skalsky's fiance, Tara Lafler. "I didn't think anything was wrong. He didn't say anything to me about walking."

During a phone call to relatives around that time, he said an acquaintance had pulled up next to him to give him a ride. His sister Brenda says it's out of character for him not to call someone and let them know where he is.

"He's always in contact with me or my family 24-7. I can't tell you how many times a day he talks to my mom."

Though the on-foot search was called off Tuesday afternoon, his family wants him to know they're still looking for him, and want him to come home.

"John, if you're out there, just give even Benton County a call, or me, or one of your best friends or your family," said Lafler.

"If you have any information regarding Skalsky's whereabouts, you can call 911, or contact the Benton County Sheriff's Department at (319) 472-2337.

Skalsky was last seen wearing blue jeans, a grey sweatshirt, black boots, and a black leather jacket. He's about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, has short brown hair, brown eyes, and wears glasses.
