Despite loss at Ohio State, Iowa gains Robinson

COLUMBUS, OHIO (KWWL) - After a heartbreaking loss at Ohio State Saturday, the Iowa Hawkeyes sit at 15th in both national polls; falling from 13th in the USA Today Top 25.

All odds against them, Quarterback James Vandenberg making his first ever start for the Hawks. Held on to the end after this last minute play in regulation. Vanderberg with the pass to McNutt sending the game into over time. Ohio State would win it on a 39 yard field goal. Despite loss the hawks welcoming back Adam Robinson.

Lost in the headlines of a game with so much at stake, and lost among an Iowa classic comeback led by a young quarterback pushing powerful Ohio State to the brink.

It was the return of another redshirt freshman into the starting line-up that gave the hawks a much needed boost.

"What a great job by Adam Robinson. I didn't expect him to carry the whole load like that, but he did a great job," said head coach Kirk Ferenz.

Robinson was expected to be lost for the regular season after leaving the game at Michigan State with an ankle injury admittedly only 85-90 percent healthy, Robinson said he was well enough to play. His addition to the line-up came just before Brandon Wegher left pregame drills due to an undisclosed condition.

"I didn't know I was going to play the whole game until probably the second half. They said there still was a chance Brandon might get into the second quarter," said Adam Robinson.

Bur Wegher never made it back. Instead Robinson played the entire game, carrying the ball 20 times, and seemingly solving a daunting Buckeye defense at times that now hasn't allowed a 100 yard rusher in 21 games.

"For all we knew it might have been one play and out. One of those shots. He's another guy like Vandenberg. He doesn't say a lot. He just gives you a good vibe. He plays hard and if there's any possible way he's going to get it done, he's going to do it," said Ferenz.

Robinson's early return is a crucial step for a Hawkeye team desperately trying to get healthy.
