Car dealers teaming up to collect toys


CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- As the holiday season approaches, some Eastern Iowa car dealers are teaming up to collect toys for local charities to give out to area kids in need.

Listed below are the charities receiving the toys and the Chevy dealer that is collecting toys for them.

  • Boys & Girls Club of Cedar Rapids (Pat McGrath Chevyland)
  • Cedar Falls Toys for Tots (Community Motor Co.)
  • Waterloo Boys & Girls Club (Rydell Chevrolet)
  • Cedar Valley Friends of the Family (Jerry Roling Chevrolet)
  • Iowa City Salvation Army (McEleney Autoplex)
  • HACAP of Washington County (Gretter Autoland)
  • Homeless Children’Children's Trust of Mount Vernon (Lynch Chevrolet)
  • La Porte City Crosslines (Witham Auto Center)

The dealers will be accepting new, unwrapped toys until December 15, 2009.  The toys will then be delivered to the charities in time to be handed out for the holidays.               

John Gretter, Elite Chevy Dealer Association President says, “We don’don't think a group of Chevrolet Dealers has ever come together before to serve the children of our local communities.” said John Gretter.

Gretter says their goal is to fill the back of a Chevy Silverado pick-up truck.
