Cutting out your favorite foods in the name of weight loss is enough to make anyone grumpy... But new research from Australia finds one diet puts you in a worse mood than others.

100 obese adults were assigned to two diet groups: one group followed a low-carb, high-fat diet... The other group completed a high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet.

Both groups lost the same amount of weight, about thirty pounds.

However, after an initial improvement in mood, those following the low-carb diet were more likely to slip back to a negative outlook.

Experts aren't sure why low-carb diets affect mood.  They say high levels of protein and fat could change the hormones that control mood.
