Hawkeye faithful remain optimistic

IOWA CITY (KWWL)- The Hawks loss to Northwestern may sting a little bit.

"It's a tough loss today, obviously at home, nobody wants to lose at home," said Hawkeye fan Zach Gulick.

But it doesn't mean the future isn't rosy.

"We're trying to figure out when we should get our tickets. We're planning on going, one of our sons maybe our daughter I don't know, but if they make it to the Rose Bowl, we will too," said Hawkeye fan Carl Berst.

One Eastern Iowa travel agency says it's never too early to share in on the optimism.

"It's very unusual to be having this many calls this early and that's one of the many reasons we did open our package for presale because people are so excited," said Lisa Gilliatt with Destinations Unlimited.

Destinations Unlimited in Cedar Rapids is already taking reservations for a Rose Bowl package.

"We had people waiting outside our door that morning when we opened, anxious to make their reservations," said Gilliatt.

One hundred of potentially three hundred spots have already been filled.  The agency is asking for a $250 deposit that will be refunded should the Hawks not be invited to Pasadena.

Even if Iowa's dream season has hit a bump in the road, fans continue to stay optimistic about their team's postseason chances.

"We can still go to the Rose Bowl, so I think going from here on out we still have things to look forward to," said Gulick.
