Mother of injured Iowa soldier speaks out

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- 27-year-old Staff Sgt. Joy Clark from Des Moines was one of the injured soldiers in Thursday's attack at Ft. Hood.

Clark's family says a soldier in front of her was shot.  When Clark went to help the soldier, she was shot in the arm.

Clark's mother says, she just doesn't understand how it could happen.

"But see, this isn't someone that came in from the outside," said Danise Nelson.  "It was a psychiatrist who was getting ready to go on the same mission my daughter was and was supposed to be helping people get ready to go and to come back. So, it's just a total state of disbelief that he could do this."

Clark is in stable condition and is awaiting surgery Friday night.
