CR flood debris removal coming to an end

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The Cedar Rapids Solid Waste and Recycling Division wants to remind people that the collection of flood debris will end this month.

FEMA funding for the collection ends on November 26, 2009, so crews will begin making a final pass through flood affected neighborhoods on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.

The city urges flood victims to have flood debris out in separate piles by the curb before November 11, because once the contractor cleans up a street, they will not return.

So far, 41,538 tons of residential flood debris has been collected since the Floods of 2008.

The city wants to extend a "Thank you" to all homeowners and volunteers that placed debris into separate piles, helping the collection process run smoothly.
