Police investigate robberies in Iowa City

IOWA CITY (KWWL)--Iowa City Police are investigating two armed robberies late Thursday night.

The first happened on North Gilbert Street just after 11 p.m. Police say a man was approached from behind by two men and punched in the face. He was knocked to the ground.  One of the robbers had a gun, and demanded money from the victim.

Around that same time, police were called to North Linn Street. That's where police say a similar situation happened. A man was approached by two men in an alley.  One of the robbers had a gun.  When the victim yelled for help, one of the robbers began punching him. The suspects ran from the scene, without getting any money.

Both victims had minor injuries.

The suspects are described as black men, 18-20 years old. Police say at least one of the men was wearing a black, puffy, down coat and black ski cap.
