Disaster funds awarded to 11 Eastern Iowa communities

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Twelve Eastern Iowa communities are receiving a share of $94 million in disaster funding from federal Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Funds for seventeen projects. 

The funds will help communities with improvements to water systems and sanitary and storm systems as they continue to recover from flood damage.

In all, 41 communities are sharing $94 million for 49 projects.

The money is part of the $516.7 million in CDBG Disaster Recovery Funds announced in October. 

The list of Eastern Iowa communities receiving funds is below:

City of Cedar Falls
CDBG Award: $3,969,300
Other Funds/Match: $1,683,900 (City Funds)
Project Description: Construct new Bluff Street Lift Station for sanitary sewer flows at a higher elevation, including all pumps, force main, trunks, piping and electrical components.

City of Cedar Rapids
CDBG Award: $64,000
Project Description: Remove and replace 105 LF of storm sewer, 106 SY of curb/gutter and driveway, as well as 6 storm intakes to improve street drainage along O Avenue NW.

City of Cedar Rapids
CDBG Award: $8,922,700
Project Description: Remove and replace 3,100 LF of box culvert storm sewer, sidewalk, curb and gutter and related sub drain and water system improvements.

City of Cedar Rapids
CDBG Award: $6,495,400
Project Description: Rehabilitate the Morgan Creek Lift Station, including all pump improvements, site redevelopment, emergency power generation, building and pump/electrical improvements.

City of Cedar Rapids
CDBG Award: $40,000    
Project Description: Remove and replace 224 LF of storm sewer pipe, storm sewer intakes, 37 SY of pavement and 175 LF of curb and gutter.

City of Clarksville
CDBG Award: $2,000,000
Other Funds/Match: $687,000 (City of Clarksville Utility Fees)
Project Description: Construct a new storm water detention basin and storm sewers consisting of ten blocks of 36" storm sewer, seven blocks of 30" storm sewer, nineteen blocks of 24" storm sewer, nine blocks of 18" sewer, nineteen blocks of 15" sewer as well as 259 intakes and manholes.

City of Conrad
CDBG Award: $825,039              
Other Funds/Match: $140,000 (City Sewer Reserves)  
Project Description: Install 4,138 LF of new sanitary sewer main as well as 12 new manholes, reline 10,400 LF of existing sanitary sewer lines and seal 30 manholes.  

City of Coralville
CDBG Award: $600,000              
Project Description: Install 7 duckbills on discharge pipes and 7 additional gate structures on outlets to prevent storm sewer backups along Hwy 6 and 1st Avenue.  

City of Garnavillo
CDBG Award: $908,150              
Other Funds/Match: $85,000 (Local Option Sales Tax)  
Project Description: Reline 3,800 LF of sanitary sewer pipe, restore 70 service connections and install 5 generators on lift stations and at the wastewater treatment plant.  

City of Iowa City
CDBG Award: $5,000,000           
Other Funds/Match: $54,600,000(combination of City Sales Tax, EDA and I-Jobs funds)  
Project Description: Relocate the entire operations from the North Wastewater Treatment Plant to the South Wastewater Treatment Plant. Demolish the North Treatment Plant.  

City of Iowa City
CDBG Award: $6,596,300           
Project Description: Construct a pump station and stormwater outlets as well as 2 flood gates to protect the Rocky Shore Drive area.  

City of Lawler
CDBG Award: $366,670              
Project Description: Install slipliner for 7,500 LF of sanitary sewer and grouting of 4,000 LF of sanitary sewer lines.  

City of Montour
CDBG Award: $821,600              
Other Funds/Match: $100,000 (City of Montour)  
Project Description: Remove and replace 1,600 LF of sanitary sewer line, reline 8,200 LF of sanitary sewer line, replace 5 manholes, rehab 80 manholes, install 1 lift station pump and 2,400 LF of outfall sewer line to the lagoon.  

City of Shellsburg
CDBG Award: $502,557              
Other Funds/Match: $50,000 (City Sewer Funds)  
Project Description: Install 600 LF of storm sewer, 3,060 LF of sanitary sewer, reline 4,500 LF of sanitary sewer and 5 storm intake structures.  

City of Sigourney
CDBG Award: $950,000              
Project Description: Reline 11,580 LF of sanitary sewer line, rehab 176 vertical feet of manholes, replace 176 manhole frames and covers, install 1 emergency generator and 2 variable frequency drives for a lift station.  

City of Waterloo
CDBG Award: 3,941,250             
Other Funds/Match: $7,015,000 (City Funds and EDA Grant)
Project Description: Construct 3 new and 2 additions/replacement storm water lift stations to protect 380 businesses representing over 5000 employees located behind the flood levees.    

City of Waterloo
CDBG Award: $6,310,000           
Project Description: Construct 3 new storm water lift stations to protect 550 residential properties located behind the flood levees.
