ISU coach wants wrestlers to be more aggressive

AMES (KWWL) - First-year coach Kevin Jackson says he wants his Iowa State wrestlers to be more aggressive and to dominate their matches, not just win them.

Jackson has taken over for Cael Sanderson, who stunned the wrestling community when he left his alma mater last spring to become the coach at Penn State.

Eight starters return for the Cyclones, led by defending NCAA champion Jake Varner at 197 pounds. Three other returnees placed in the top five nationally last season -- Nick Gallick at 141, Jon Reader at 165 and heavyweight David Zabriskie.

Jackson, a former ISU wrestler who had been the U.S. national freestyle coach, says all the returning All-Americans have the potential to win NCAA titles.
