Defense Now Making Their Case in Kehoe Trial

GRUNDY CENTER (KWWL) -- The prosecution has rested and the defense is now presenting their case in the Michelle Kehoe trial.

Kehoe is the Coralville mom accused of killing her 2 year-old son Seth and trying to kill her then 7 year-old son Sean back in October of 2008.

Defense Attorney Andrea Dryer made her opening statement saying, "To a healthy person, to seek death, to impose death would not be right. To a healthy person death would not equal hope. To Michelle Kehoe it did and she believed that it was also for the good and for the benefit of her children to take their lives at the same time that she tried to take hers."

The defense claims that Kehoe was insane when she tried to kill her children and herself.

The defense called Dr. William Logan, a psychiatrist who examined Kehoe, he said that she had a family history of alcoholism, her parents fought alot and her father died when she was six.

He also says she had previously tried to kill herself, was on anti-depressents and even underwent electro-shock treatments.

All of this comes after the courtroom heard the specific details this morning of how Seth Kehoe died.

The defense also plans to call a psychologist to the stand.

Kehoe has not yet taken the stand in her defense.

News Channel Seven's John Wilmer is in the courtroom and will have updates on the KWWL News at Noon, 5 and 6 as well as here on KWWL.COM.
