Little Hawks End Dubuque Hempstead's Season

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- In class 4A, Dubuque Hempstead had a daunting task, going to Iowa City to take on top ranked Iowa City High.

With 6 minutes left to go in the 2nd half, the Little Hawks were already up 17 to 0, and driving toward another score.

2nd and 1 on the 26, future Hawkeye AJ Derby rolls to his right and finds Noah Cmiel for the score.

That makes it 24 - 0 Little Hawks.

In the 4th quarter with under 2 minutes left to play, Hempstead would put together a drive.

Cody Leach hands the ball to Jason Lewis and he rumbles for a nice 22 yard gain.

A few plays later, 1st and Goal from the 10, Lewis gets his number called again, and this time he finds the end zone.  24 - 7 Little Hawks.

But it would be too little too late as the Little Hawks move on with a 24-7 win.

They will host Cedar Rapids Washington at Bates Field at 7:00 p.m. Friday night.
