Local Hospitals Tightening Visitor Restrictions

WATERLOO (KWWL) - In the ongoing battle against the H1N1 flu virus, Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls and Mercy Hospital in Oelwein have added further restrictions on who can visit patients.

Effective Friday, October 30th, the following guidelines will be put into place temporarily during the flu season.

  • No more than two visitors at a time.
  • Visitors need to be 18 years of age and older (including siblings of a newborn).
  • Exceptions may be made for cases involving critically-ill patients or end-of-life situations.

The hospitals are requesting that all visitors be in good health.  If a staff member sees a visitor coughing or sneezing, they may be requested to wear a mask or requested to leave.

Visitors should not come into the hospital if they've had flu-like symptoms in the last seven days.

Visitors are also required to wash their hands with soap and water or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer before entering or exiting a patient room.

Those visiting an ill patient may be required to wear a mask.
