H1N1 supercomputer researching future outbreaks

AUSTIN, TEXAS (NBC) -- The supercomputer at the University of Texas in Austin is being used to study how the flu is spreading through North America.

It tracks outbreaks by city and predicts the possibility of a third wave for this spring.  The research team began this past summer, studying flu patterns, as well as the best ways to fight it.

The CDC's vaccine distribution strategy is actually based on this team's findings.  Just to give you an idea of how sophisticated these computers are - the amount of analysis they have done on H1N1 in two months would have taken 70 years on the desktop computer in most offices.
