Eldora man charged for stealing car, lying to police

TAMA COUNTY (KWWL) -- A routine traffic stop ended in the recovery of a stolen vehicle and drug charges for an Eldora man.

Toledo Police say they pulled over a car last night around 9:45 p.m. near Highway 30.  Police say the man lied to officers about his name, but the person he claimed to be was suspended from driving.

The man was later identified as 20-year-old Matthew Hazelwood.  Officers say he was driving a stolen car from Marshalltown and was wanted for parole violations.  Police say they also found drugs in the car.

Hazelwood was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, False Information to Law Enforcement, Prohibited Acts, and Possession of Stolen Property.  He was taken to the Tama County Jail where he is being held on $10,000 bond.
