Area emergency rooms packed with patients

WATERLOO (KWWL) - Area emergency rooms have seen a significant increase in the number of patients through their doors in the past week.

University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City is currently seeing 20% more patients than normal. Almost half of those people have the flu.

Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo currently has 30% more patients than normal. 30-40% have H1N1 flu.

Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids set a record for number of patients through their ER in one day -- 63% more than average.

Meantime Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque's numbers have remained steady, though they've seen a 25% increase in patients with flu symptoms.
