200 trees for Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG (KWWL) -- Most of the trees in Parkersburg were ripped out by the May 2008 tornado, but Saturday the town started looking a bit greener.

The trees were donated to resident from Cedar Rapids' Fleming Landscape and Irrigation donated 200 trees through the Trees Forever Recover, Replant and Restore program.

"One of the first things people talk about after a tornado or hurricane is their loss of trees because... we're talking about trees that are 60-100 years old, and they're lost," Trees Forever President Shannon Ramsey said.

To demonstrate the right way to plant trees, Trees Forever and volunteers helped plant the 30 trees on this street.

This demonstration included advice on the city's new tree ordinances.
