New Hampton Beats Oelwein 27-0 For District Title

Posted:

NEW HAMPTON (KWWL) - The New Hampton and Oelwein football programs are great testaments to it's not how you start the season-- but how you finish.

Both the Chickasaws and the Huskies began the year by losing their first two non conference games.  Since then New Hampton has run off six straight wins while Oelwein has won five of six.

Friday night New Hampton and the Huskies battled for the district championship.

The Oelwein Huskies receive the ball first, but it was a quick three and out thanks to some great Chickasaw defense. They held Oelwein to only 7 first downs and 117 total yards for the game

New Hampton's offense went right to work on a twelve play drive lasting five minutes, behind the legs of Brock Boeding.  In fact, on third and nine Boeding kept the drive alive, by getting the ball rushing 11 yards.

Number 44 Alec Lang also helped on the drive by capping it off with a sweep around the right side, fighting off several tackles on his way to the zone - - touchdown from 13-yards out. Seven - zip New Hampton Chickasaws.

The Huskies would go three and out and it would only take four plays for the Chickasaws to strike again thanks to the horse 200 pounder Alec Lang rumbling it 43-yards to the Huskies 17-yard line.

Two plays later, Lang would answer the call once again with a 15-yard touchdown scamper around the left side.

That's how the first quarter would end and the second begin with a 14-zero Chickasaw lead. Oelwein could not get anything going and they would fall, 27-zero to the Chickasaws.

Both Oelwein and New Hampton move on to sub-state this Wednesday. New Hampton will play the fourth seed in District four.
