UI closes Chicago office

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The University of Iowa plans to close its downtown Chicago field office.  UI launched the Chicago Center in 2007 to increase its presence in one of its major feeder areas, but officials decided it could achieve many of the same goals without the physical location.  A UI official says closing the center will save about $36,000 a year in lease costs. The lease expires at the end of the month.  The center was opened as a three-year experiment to help with recruiting and connecting alumni with job opportunityiesin that area.  About one-third of UI students come from the Chicago area.
