Fire damages four apartments in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Seven people are homeless after a fire damaged four apartments in a complex in Cedar Rapids.

Fire crews were called to the 600 block of 16th street SW just before 4:30 Wednesday morning.

When firefighters arrived, they found one person was still trapped in the building.

They quickly assembled a ladder to rescue 23-year-old Brittany Harmon-Wright.

Fire officials say the fire started in Harmon-Wright's apartment, they say someone was heating up grease in a pan and fell asleep, leaving the pan on the stove.

Harmon-Wright's apartment was heavily damaged by fire, three others were damaged by smoke.

No one was injured, the fire remains under investigation.
