Praises for state's pandemic plan

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A top United States elections official is praising Wisconsin's contingency plans for holding elections during a flu pandemic.

U.S. Election Assistance Commission Chairwoman Gineen Beach called Wisconsin's plan "forward-thinking" and said it could serve as a model for other states. She said it was the first she's seen that specifically addresses how to run an election while containing the spread of germs.

The Government Accountability Board is recommending that polling places include "safety stations" stocked with hand sanitizer, surgical masks and latex gloves that would be available to voters.

Beach made the remarks in Madison at the end of a two-day fact-finding trip where she met with state and local officials.
