Shooting range controversy

RAYMOND (KWWL) --The Black Hawk County Sheriff's office wants to build a fire-arms practice range at the Raymond quarry, but the location has been a controversial issue in the community.

Some Raymond residents have started a petition this week because the rifle range will be a quarter of a mile from the school.

At a recent town meeting, the sheriff has said that they are taking safety precautions and that the range is at a safe distance.

However residents' say safety is not their only concern.

"I don't think its something that students should ever have to get use to as putting up with listeing to gun shots shounds on a daily basis or even on a weekly basis." St. Joseph's Teacher Nancy Bolick said.

And some residents are worried about their property resale value.

The Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors met  Tuesday morning  to discuss the plans, but the final decision is still a few weeks away.
