Dubuque Selected as host city for 2010 Dock Dogs National Championships

DUBUQUE (KWWL) - The 2010 Dock Dogs National Championship is coming to Dubuque.  The event, from October 15-17, 2010, will draw 450-500 Dock Dog competitors, thousands of spectators and even more of an economic impact.  The Dubuque Convention and Visitors Bureau says it could bring more than $1.5 million to the local economy.

Dock Dogs has been to Dubuque before.  Dubuque hosted the event in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009 as part of the America's River Festival.  In 2007 Dubuque and the America's River Festival received the People's Choice Awards for Dock Dogs National Event of the Year.

The selecting was announced on October 17 during a banquet at the 2009 Dock Dogs National Championships.  Director of the Convention & Visitors Bureau, Keith Rahe, and CVB Sales Manager, Katie Simmons, were present in Mason, OH for the announcement.

"Upon Dubuque being announced as the host city of the 2010 National Championships, the crowd went ecstatic.  Dubuque has a fantastic reputation for being a host to the Dock Dogs.  The Dock Dogs National Headquarters is very familiar with the popularity of Dock Dogs in Dubuque and has witnessed the growth of competitors and spectators firsthand. Dock Dogs approached Dubuque to host this event and we were proud to accept," stated Rahe.

This even will be larger than the past. The regional Dock Dogs events that have been hosted in Dubuque have featured one Dock Dog pool.  The 2010 Dock Dogs National Championships will feature 4 to 5 pools.
