Dysart Woman's Death Ruled Homicide

Benton County (KWWL) -- The death of a Dysart woman in an October 8th car accident near Garrison has been ruled a homicide.

Stephanie Ann Dripps of Dysart was in a car driven by 42 year old Paul Steven Lauritson of Hudson.  According to the Iowa State Patrol, Lauritson didn't stop for the stop sign at 19th Avenue and 63rd Street and drove into the path of an SUV driven by Jennifer Lynn Engler of Garrison.  The crash killed both Dripps and Lauritson.  The accident report says that Dripps was ejected through the back window.

Deputy Medical Examiner Dr. Mark Dearden ruled Dripps' manner of death as homicide caused by a "multi-system trauma caused by a motor vehicle accident." Dr. Dearden would not say why he believes it is a homicide.

Dr. Dearden did say that he is helping the Benton County Sheriff's Office with the investigation as it continues.

Engler and her two children were injured in the accident.  Jennifer Engler was taken to Virginia Gay Hospital, her 10 year old daughter Halie was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and her son John was taken to St. Luke's.
