Panther basketball eyes more success

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- The turnaround the Northern Iowa basketball team experienced last season was nothing short of incredible.  After a 6-6 start in December, the Panthers pulled together, rolled to a conference co-championship, and into the NCAA tournament.

Now this year's team has to deal with the expectations.  The Panthers bring back everyone except for shooting guard Travis Brown and are picked by many to repeat as MVC champs.

But at Monday's media day it wasn't their focus.  That was on constant improvement, as they say the rest will take care of itself.

"I think the biggest key is our commitment to getting better," says head coach Ben Jacobson, " I've been very impressed with this group, how hard they work this past spring, summer, leading up to practice just a couple days ago.  The guys really work at it."

"I think a lot of guys put in more work this offseason than we have in the past," adds senior forward Adam Koch, "so it made it a little longer though, but now we're ready to go and we're prepared for the season."

The Panthers open up exhibition play on October 31 against Upper Iowa.
