Dubuque schools earl Blue Ribbon Award

DUBUQUE (KWWL) - Earlville Elementary and Resurrection Elementary in Dubuque both won the 2009 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Award, which recognizes schools achieving dramatic gains in student achievement.

Each year, a total of 464 schools can be nominated, based upon the number of K-12 students and the number of schools in the state. The Chief State School Officer (CSSO) nominates public schools, and the Council for American Private Education (CAPE) submits private schools' nominations. The schools are invited by the Secretary of Education to submit an application for possible recognition as a Blue Ribbon School.

This year, 314 schools were honored, 264 public and 50 private. Each school will be recognized at an awards ceremony on November 3 in Washington D.C.
