Injured officer vows to return to work

DES MOINES (KWWL) - A Des Moines police officer who was run over by a pickup truck while on duty has made a vow to return to work.  31-year-old Nick Lloyd suffered broken teeth and bones in the incident at an apartment complex earlier this month. He came home from the hospital earlier in the week after surgery on his pelvis.  He faces weeks of extensive physical therapy and he walks with crutches and is on medication for constant aches.  But Lloyd says it's not a matter of if he'll return to work, but when he'll go back.  A 37-year-old Des Moines man is charged with attempted murder and other crimes stemming from the Oct. 4 incident.  Elvin Redmond is accused of ramming Lloyd's police cruiser while trying to escape authorities after a series of assaults at the apartment complex.
