Deere lawsuit ruling

DAVENPORT (KWWL) - A federal judge in Iowa decided a lawsuit over health benefits for a group of Deere & Co. retirees, in favor of the company.

The plaintiffs were about 5,000 former employees who are medicare eligible. Deere cut company health benefits that supplemented government insurance and set up a new system where the retirees select their own private insurance.

Retirees filed the lawsuit to get their old benefits restored. The judge ruled Deere made its ability to end or alter the plan clear and did not guarantee lifelong medical benefits.
