Research for vaccine-like cocaine treatment

Yale scientists are working on a vaccine-like treatment for people addicted to cocaine.

About two and a half million Americans are hooked on cocaine, but just about 800,000 of them get treatment, according to researchers.  They say 38-percent of cocaine abusers developed cocaine-fighting antibodies after getting the vaccine, but the effect only lasted about 2 months.

Despite the limited success, researchers say the work is promising and could someday lead to an effective treatment for cocaine addiction.
