FDA to study long-term effects of Lasik

Reported complications with lasik eye surgery are leading to a new FDA study looking into long-term effects.

Nearly six million Americans have undergone lasik, where the cornea is permanently reshaped to improve a patient's vision.

Experts say 95 percent of patients are happy with the results, but a small number experience long-term complications, like double vision, dry eye and halos around objects at night.

The FDA will issue an online questionnaire for patients to report their quality of life after the procedure, and they will track their clinical outcome.  The study is expected to end in 2012.
