KWWL launches new text message alerts

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- We know that life is busy and there may not always be a television or computer around for the latest news and weather information.

KWWL has launched a new text messaging service, aimed at keeping viewers informed no matter where they are.

Subscribers can choose specific types of messages to receive like breaking news or weather alerts. Daily weather alerts will go out at 7 a.m. with a look at what to expect as you get ready for work or school. Severe weather alerts are also available by county to warn you of potentially dangerous weather in your area. Other alerts include traffic, programming changes, contests and special offers.

Standard text messaging rates apply, meaning if you have a text messaging plan through your mobile provider, the messages will be free.

If you have previously signed up for KWWL's school closing alerts, you are still subscribed to receive those alerts. But, if you go to the sign-up page and choose to edit your preferences, you can sign up for the new types of alerts.
