DHS could slash 400 jobs

DES MOINES (KWWL)-- To meet the budget cuts, the Department of Human Services may take a bit hit in terms of employees. As many as 400 full-time jobs could be cut.

The DHS must slash its budget by $132 million.

The largest state agency currently has 57-hundred full-time positions, and of those, 264 are unfilled.

Other options to cut the budget include a reduction in the number of service areas and less full-time offices.

The Human Services Department oversees programs in areas including health care, nutrition and child care.
