Big Event At Dan Gable Museum

Dennis Hastert, former Speaker of the House of the United States Congress, is at the Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum this Saturday.

Speaker Hastert, a 10-term Congressman from Illinois, will receive the Sport of Lincoln Award on Saturday at 2 p.m., during inductions for the Greco-Roman Hall of Champions event. Five former Olympic and World champions are being inducted at that time.

The Sport of Lincoln Award is presented for meritorious service to the sport of wrestling. Hastert was a college wrestler and high school coach in Illinois prior to running for Congress. He has been a staunch supporter of wrestling for 40 years.

Other honorees are Olympic champions Steve Fraser and Jeff Blatnick (now a national television sports commentator) and World Champion Mike Houck. In addition, the Reiter family of rural Jesup will receive the first-ever Iowa Legacy Award. Wrestling for Don Bosco High School, the four Reiter boys - Joe, Mack, Eddie and Bart - won a total of 15 medals and nine championships at the Iowa State High School Championships.
