CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL)

Every three years, following the rules of the City of Cedar Rapids Charter, new members are appointed to the City's Long Term Planning Commission.  The time for new applicants is here, and the October 30 deadline is fast-approaching

Applications from Cedar Rapids residents and local area residents are being accepted immediately for the Mayor and City Council appointed Long Term Planning Commission.

In 2006, when the form of government changed by citizen vote, the Charter directed a Long Term Planning Commission be appointed every three years.  The past members developed the Cedar Rapids Vision 2030.  The newly appointed members will review the Vision 2030 document and make suggestions for revisions to ensure that it fits with the Council Vision, goals and objectives and goals for flood recovery.  This Commission will have six months to complete this project and will then present their suggestions to the Mayor and City Council

The City Council will appoint 20 Cedar Rapids area residents (at least 15 of those individuals will be Cedar Rapids residents and the remainder shall represent the Cedar Rapids regional community).

Applications are available at (http://www.cedar-rapids.org/boards/documents/Application.doc) and may be submitted by mail to the City Manager's office, 3851 River Ridge Drive NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402, hand-carried to the City Manager's office, submitted by fax at (319) 286-5144, or by e-mail to citymanager@cedar-rapids.org.   Applications are due by Friday, October 30, 2009, at 5 PM.
