Hawk hoopsters look for improvement

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Todd Lickliter called the Hawkeyes' last season a disappointment.  For the second straight year Iowa finished with a losing record, and the Hawks finished 10th in the Big Ten Conference.

This year's squad has their sights set much higher, which was evident when they met with the media Monday afternoon.

The Hawkeyes focused on strength training over the summer and they say with all the work they've put in, anything but qualifying for the post season would be a disappointment.

"I want to play in the NCAA tournament.  Anything short of that I'll probably be disappointed in," said guard Matt Gatens, "We're looking forward to working hard and getting to that, becuase once you get to the tournament anything can happen."

"Polls have us picked last, but the main thing for us to do is get better, said forward Jarryd Cole, "We know what we need to do here.  We know what we want to get accomplished, and the best thing we can do is just progress."

The Hawks play 13 of their first 18 games at home, opening the regular season November 15th, against Texas-San Antonio.
