Iowa legislators want efficiency ideas

DES MOINES (AP) -- Two Iowa legislators are looking to the public for ideas to make state government agencies and departments more efficient and effective.

Rep. Mary Mascher of Iowa City and Sen. Staci Appel of Ackworth, both Democrats, are co-chairs of the Legislature's State Government Reorganization Commission. They are seeking ideas for efficiencies in administration and regulation; agriculture and natural resources; economic development; education; health and human services; justice systems; and transportation, infrastructure, and capitals.

Mascher says in the wake of last week's 10 percent across the board cut, it's clear state government will have to do more with less money. He adds it's important wise decisions are made and government more efficient.

Mascher said the Legislature has set up a special Web site -- -- to take anonymous comments on ways to make state government more efficient.
