Waterloo police identify victim in fatal weekend crash

WATERLOO (KWWL) - The Waterloo Police Department has identified the victim in a fatal Sunday morning two-vehicle crash.

Investigators said that 18-year-old Karlee Nagel died in the early-morning wreck.

Nagel is a 2009 graduate of Waterloo West High School.

Friends of Nagle have left flowers and other momentos at the scene of the crash.

Sharon Miller from the Waterloo School District said that counselors at West High have been alerted and will be available for any students or staff who may need them.

A visitation for Nagel will be held at Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo on Tuesday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Her funeral will also be at Locke Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Police were called to a two-vehicle crash involving an SUV and a van at the intersection of Sergeant Road and University Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Police records show 37-year-old Jeffrey Heidemann was later arrested for leaving the scene and first offense OWI.
