H1N1 vaccine supply runs out in Polk Co.

DES MOINES (KWWL) - The Polk County Health Department has run out of its first shipment of the swine flu vaccine.  Polk County got 1,300 of the 18,000 doses that were distributed statewide last week.  The health department says nurses gave the last dose on Sunday.

Doses in the first shipment came in the form of a nasal mist, which couldn't be used for all the recommended groups.  Health officials said pregnant women shouldn't get the nasal mist vaccine but should get the shot when it becomes available. The other risk groups include school-age students, people who live with or provide care to children under 6 months old and emergency medical and other health care providers.  A second shipment with swine flu vaccine shots should arrive later this week.
