Monticello Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive with 28-14 Win over Columbus
WATERLOO (KWWL) -- In Class 2A, District 4 action, the Monticello Panthers visited the Columbus Sailors. Monticello came out firing. Cody Gullett connected with Dakota Gilmore for a 45 yard gain and a big 3 rd down conversion.
Two plays later, Jay Ahlrichs punched it in from the 1 for a 7-0 lead. Next possession the Panthers would do it again. Gullett finds Dallas Koppes for an 8 yard TD putting Monticello up 14-0. Late in the 2nd quarter, Ahlrichs gets the call again and finds the paint on a 4 yard TD. Panthers up 21-0. A fumble on the kick off would set up the final score of the half. Cody Gullett hooks up with Jay Ahlrichs for a 9 yard TD. That would be Ahlrichs 3 rd TD of the half and gives the Panthers a 28-0 lead.
Columbus scored two second half touchdowns to make the final a respectable 28-14 Monticello win.
