Denver's Sean Blake, Athlete of the Week

Posted:

DENVER (KWWL) -- Denver's Sean Blake may not be the quickest blocker in the area, but he's definitely one of the smartest.

"He just understands our blocking schemes," says Cyclone Head Coach Rhett Barrett, "He's not always necessarily the quickest to get there, but he's got good finesse."

The senior right tackle anchors a 6-0 squad that's averaging over 45 points a game and in a serious hunt for a district title.

"We can pretty much do what we want to do as long as we play good disciplined football and keep it up," says Blake

Blake's a big force on defense as well, constantly drawing double teams from opposing squads.

"He's a big body, and he's very physical," says Barrett, "and to keep him out of the play, you're going to have to put two people on him and that's what we want to have happen."

While his physical play on the field stands out, Blake's also Denver's reigning homecoming king.  Also, his ability to keep his team loose on the sidelines and in the huddle is another major attribute.

"When it gets tough, a good joke here and there is pretty fun," says Blake.

"  He doesn't get mad very easily.  It's just everything's a joke," says Denver Quarterback Aaron Elbert, "but when it comes time to get serious, he's very serious."

That seriousness along with Blake's senior leadership could be a big factor in the Cyclones making a deep postseason run:
