Proposed legislation would help 25,000 unemployed Iowans

WASHINGTON (KWWL) - Iowa's Dave Loebsack and three other congressmen introduced legislation to extend unemployment benefits for an additional 13 weeks to states
currently receiving unemployment compensation under the Emergency
Unemployment Compensation program.

Earlier this month, the U.S.  House passed H.R. 3548, the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act,  which only applied to states with unemployment rates of 8.5% or higher.
H.R. 3548 excluded several states, including Iowa.

A statement from Loebsack's office Thursday said this legislation, H.R. 3756, will greatly impact Iowa, which has an unemployment rate of 6.8%. In Iowa, it is estimated that this legislation will help an additional 25,000.
