Woman accused of harassing football player

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- An Iowa City woman has been arrested on charges she harassed a University of Iowa football player during Saturday's game against Arkansas State.

According to police, Brittney Jane Mears, who was seated in the first row behind the player's bench, called out the name of a Hawkeye player throughout the first three quarters of the game. Police removed the 22-year-old woman from Kinnick Stadium after the player complained he was "distracted and annoyed" by the woman.

It was the third time the woman has been warned about harassing the Iowa player.

Court records show Mears entered a plea of guilty to a July 27 offense and received a deferred judgment. She was given 10 days of community service and one year of probation.

Mears was being held Wednesday in lieu of $1,000 bond at the Johnson County Jail on the latest complaint.
