Midwest governors see clean energy cooperation need

DETROIT (AP) -- The governors of Michigan and Wisconsin say there's a lot of room for cooperation on promoting clean energy industry and infrastructure across the Midwest despite heated competition between states for new investment and jobs.

Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle on Wednesday said agreements by members of the 11-state Midwestern Governors Association are designed to help attract investment in clean energy and train workers.

Their comments came as the association's two-day Jobs and Energy Forum wrapped up in Detroit.

The association also includes governors from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio and South Dakota. Governors from those states didn't attend, but were represented by other officials.
