Man continues search for missing son

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL)-  Police efforts have stalled in locating a missing University of Iowa student reported missing eight days ago.

Dessalines Similhomme is walking great lengths to find the whereabouts of his son.

"Until I find him, I will not stop, if I do not find him, I'm not going to stop."

Dessalines went searching for his son Jacques after Jacques' girlfriend told him he was missing.

Wednesday morning, Dessalines found his son's car in Cedar Rapids with his laptop, wallet, and cellphone still inside.

Jacques' girlfriend later told Dessalines she knows his son is dead somewhere in Ellis Park, just miles away from where the abandoned car was found.

"I found his wallet, his cellular phone, that's why I think my son really died."

Police say they've followed all active leads but have nothing new to go on, but Desallines is not alone in his search.

" We have ten of us down here right now just scouring the area trying to see any sign of what happened to Jacques," said Dwight Lapine, Desallines' pastor in Rochester, Minnesota.

Ten members of the Calvary Baptist Church made the two and a half hour drive to help Dessalines find his son.

And so the group scours the miles along the Cedar River, hoping to bring some closure to Dessalines.

"This is such a difficult place to look, there's so many areas to look, we need some help," said Lapine.

"No matter what, I will not give up, I will look for his body where he is," said Similhomme.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

Dessalines Similhomme is welcoming any help in his search for his son.
